Hello there good reader,

My last post talked about religion in gaming. Perhaps it should have read - random thoughts and rambling on how religion and gaming interact.

This time I would like to discuss the religious makeup in the gaming world.

There are three basic approaches in gaming: 1) pretend that religion doesn't exist, 2) create a random religion for the purposes of the game and 3) not deal with it.

Granted, numbers 1 and 3 seem like the same thing but they are not. Number 1 assumes that religion is not important or doesn't have any game effects. This is the approach often used by science fiction games. Number 3 is perhaps the easiest as it requires nothing more than a willingness on the part of those at the table to not bring it up. Characters are assumed to have religious portions to their lives but don't often act on them. This is often used in a modern style game.

The classic example of Number 2 is the DnD pantheon for the various settings.

Next time, info on how to create a religious setting in your game.
